Alice Walker discusses By character Light of My Father's Smile, being one of the first censored writers in the U.S., women’s sexuality, and much more.

"You look like you're dressed in behalf of summer," says Alice Walker, unbelievingly, to a shorts-clad visitor who arrives at her majestic, 40-acre retreat in northern California.
