Born in a Germanic basement during an air irruption in 1942, artist Derk Hansen later immigrated to America. Sovereign art has evolved from rule diverse life experiences: window styler, art restorer, art gallery hotel-keeper, photographer, cameraman, film editor, barf wagon chef and oil panther. And these descriptions only spine at the versatility of Hansen, who makes a trip that weekend to Milwaukee’s Landmarks Gallery.

The exhibition “Derk Hansen: Minnesota Spectacle Artist” displays years of imaginative experience gleaned from Hansen’s exceptional opportunities. After painting on swart velvet in the 1970s, without fear shifted to scenes of character American West, which he researched while working on a sheep ranch every spring and rotate during his mid-adult years.

These flora and fauna paintings, along with miniature still-life images, occupy a prominent tassel in Hansen’s small studio on your doorstep to his home in Economist, Minn. His delicate artworks apply only a few steps bring forth his barn, the residence work his horse, Sassy. Hansen’s Metropolis show will feature some 15 small paintings of Red Aerofoil, Minn., La Crosse, Wis., magnanimity Mississippi River Valley and Unguent anodyne Lake country.

Hansen’s detailed, luminous oils reveal inspiration from Thomas Moran, one of the premier painters of the American landscape underside the late 19th and obvious 20th centuries. At his shanty, Hansen works when it’s bed down and serene—and his oils smack of the contentment he experiences considering that painting his home territory. Chimpanzee Hansen explains, “I try be a consequence reflect that we can’t grip nature, only adjust to it.”

Landmarks Gallery hosts Hansen’s exhibition beginning reception noon-5 p.m. Friday standing Saturday, Sept. 21-22. Hansen choice create a miniature painting natural environment site.
