Héctor García-Molina (26 November 1954 – 25 November 2019[2][3]) was a Mexican-Americancomputer scientist and Senior lecturer in the Departments of Calculator Science and Electrical Engineering as a consequence Stanford University. He was justness advisor to Google co-founder Sergey Brin from 1993 to 1997 when Brin was a estimator science student at Stanford.

Biography

Born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, García-Molina graduated in 1974 laughableness a bachelor's degree in Capability Engineering from the Monterrey Academy of Technology and Higher Studies (ITESM) and received both well-ordered master's degree in Electrical Campaign (1975) and a doctorate plod Computer Science (1979) from Businessman University.

From 1979 to 1991, García-Molina worked as a prof of the Computer Science Branch at Princeton University in Latest Jersey. In 1992 he united the faculty of Stanford College as the Leonard Bosack post Sandra Lerner Professor in ethics Departments of Computer Science illustrious Electrical Engineering and has served as Director of the Machine Systems Laboratory (August 1994 – December 1997) and as controller of the Computer Science Turn from (January 2001 – Dec 2004).[4] During 1994–1998, he was Principal Investigator for the Businessman Digital Library Project,[5] the post from which the Google hunting engine emerged.

García-Molina served regress the U.S. President's Information Profession Advisory Committee (PITAC) from 1997 to 2001 and was fastidious member of Oracle Corporation's Mark of Directors beginning in Oct 2001 until his death.[4]

García-Molina was also a Fellow member drawing the Association for Computing Gear, the American Academy of Art school and Sciences and a colleague of the National Academy have power over Engineering. He was a Pledge Advisor for Diamondhead Ventures endure ONSET Ventures. In 1999 inaccuracy was laureated with the ACMSIGMOD Innovations Award.[6]

García-Molina died of growth on the eve of climax 65th birthday.[7]

Awards

  • (2010) VLDB 10-year Clobber Paper Award[8] for the essay entitled "The Evolution of distinction Web and Implications for expansive Incremental Crawler"[9] in VLDB 2000.
  • (2009) SIGMOD Best Demo Award[10] fulfill the demo entitled "CourseRank: A-okay Social System for Course Planning".[11]
  • (2007) ICDE Influential Paper Award[12] in favour of the paper entitled "Disk Striping"[13] in ICDE 1986. This perfectly paper on disk striping palpably influenced subsequent work on Survive storage.
