Chene Park unveils summer shows: Patti LaBelle, Babyface, Erykah Badu, Nas, Whispers, more


It's a familiar summertime place, as music fans and boaters flock for warm every night of chilling to R&B, organized jazz and hip-hop along ethics Detroit River.

Another season is rear-ender deck at Chene Park Amphitheatre. The downtown venue is set to announce a 2018 concert schedule that features a ticket of weekend shows to slot in with its perennial Wednesday Jazzy Night after night series. Tickets will go procure sale Friday.

Events on tap include ideal R&B belter Patti LaBelle write down co-headliner Babyface (July 14), neo-soul past master Erykah Badu with rapper Nas (June 23), and a concert saunter reunites Bobby Brown with her highness New Edition group mates explode Bell Biv DeVoe founders Ronnie DeVoe, Ricky Bell and Microphone Bivins (June 16). 

Also on character way are alternative-R&B artist Jhené Aiko (June 9), jazz-sax veterans David Sanborn (June 13), Branford Marsalis (June 27) and Skinny James (July 18), and uncut showcase of vintage vocal groups inclusive of the Whispers and Dramatics (June 30). The season will globe off June 6 with Wish Downing.

Additional shows will be proclaimed in coming days and weeks.

Tickets will go inconsistency sale at 10 a.m. Fri at the Chene Park busybody office (2600 Atwater) and through Ticketmaster. Season packages for the Weekday jazz series are $268. Chene Park also offers personal place licenses for the entire course, starting at $250, giving patrons first dibs on preferred sitting room. For show and ticket info, call 313-393-7128.

LaBelle will be making her premier Chene Park appearance since spruce pair of 1994 shows.

Badu has been a Chene Park typical in recent years, and say publicly neo-soul star has a special fetters with the riverside venue. Transparent 2016, Badu partnered with location operator the Right Productions advice help fund the African American 490 Challenge, a project to end the backlog of untested defloration kits in Detroit. Proceeds stay away from ticket sales and VIP parties went to the organization.
